More goodies

These are some of my brooches but there are many more!
I have just started selling on 'Not on the high street' and will be listing these soon. It was a little scary taking the plunge to sell on there but so far it's been worth while so i'm very happy. I will add a link soon once I can work out how to!
It looks like it's going to be another lovely weekend so i'd better get out there and enjoy it while it lasts. I hope you enjoy your weekend and that it's sunny wherever you are.

Sewing stash

I've been making some brooches to add to my stash to sell. I love making these but they take a while so I tend to make them in stages. I love choosing the fabrics for each one and like most of us who sew, I have lots of fabric to choose from :) !!
I have lots of ideas buzzing about in my head as usual but there just aren't enough hours in the day to put them into finished designs. Still, it will soon be the weekend so maybe a little sewing can take place. I will post more pictures soon of the others I have made.

Crochet

I've been making some crochet brooches over the past few evenings. I got the pattern from Lucy over at attic24 .They are easy to make, mainly because her tutorials are so easy to follow.
I learnt to crochet by my grandmother when i was about 7. She must have had lots of patience as i'm not sure i'd want to teach a 7 year old, left handed child to crochet!
I've also been making lots of fabric brooches too, which i've sold lots of. I wear one on most of my coats and jackets and am often asked where i got them. There is nothing nicer than someone admiring your handy work.

Beautiful day

It's been a beautiful day today not a cloud in the sky or planes come to that! I love looking up at the planes in the sky especially in the summer months and wondering where people are travelling to. You tend to think everyone on planes at that time of year are off on annual holidays to far flung corners of the planet, but i guess there are other reasons for travelling, sad reasons, business reasons and romance reasons!
The daffs are still blooming, although some are looking a bit worse for wear. I love spring flowers, well i love all flowers. I love the bright vibrant colours, cerise pinks and reds, oranges and purples and pastel blues and pale pinks. Flowers are always first on my shopping list!
I love this bushy thing too. No idea what name it has but it produces the most beautiful heart shaped flowery things that dangle from it. Early in the week it was just peeping out of the soil but by today it was in full bloom.....blooming marvellous!!

Easter baking

My niece and nephew are coming down to stay from Leicester so cake baking was the order of the day today. I love baking cakes, it's the only sort of cooking i enjoy. I hate the everyday dinner cooking- that's boring. I know i could go around the supermarket blindfolded as i always buy and cook the same old things week after week. Still, cakes are better than proper food anyway! I love adding the toppings, yummy coloured icing, sweets, sprinkles and best of all, glitter. How amazing is edible glitter?
I use the same recipe my mum used when i was a child;
6oz caster sugar
6oz margarine
6oz self raising flour
3 eggs
vanilla essence
Cream the sugar and margarine together until smooth. Add one egg and 1/3 of the flour and mix. then repeat with the rest of the eggs and flour. Scoop in to cake cases and cook on 190c for 20-25 mins. I use this recipe for cupcakes too, just use muffin cases instead.
Off to make some shortbread biscuits now. Recipe for this another day!

Do it for real this time.

I started this blog last year and never really got to grips with it, so i've decided to start again and do it properly this time, well try anyway.
It's strange writing things down not knowing if it will ever get read but i guess we all have to start somewhere.
I love sewing and have been doing quite a lot lately for a new venture (more of that soon). It's quite daunting but exciting at the same time. I find it frustrating that i'm not able to sew when i want to because the day job gets in the way! Easter hols are here now and i plan to do lots. My day job is a Teaching Assistant in a primary school, which i have done for more than 13 years but i feel the time is right to push my creative side and hopefully make that my full time job. We'll wait and see.
The sun is shining down here on the south coast but with black clouds looming i don't think it's going to last long. I took at trip to the coast yesterday with my daughter to take a few shots of some new bags i've been making. I just couldn't seem to get good shots indoors, which i found very frustrating! The sun was shining but it was bitterly cold. The photos came out much better so it looks like a trip there is needed every time a new item is made. I love being down by the coast so that's good news!
It's been good chatting and if you feel like adding a comment i'd be very pleased to hear from you!!
